Safe Kids Foundation (SKF) is a non profit organization dedicated to the prevention of unintentional childhood injuries, which is a leading cause of death and disability of children globally. Safe Kids Worldwide and Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust collaboratively founded Safe Kids Foundation which became a member of Safe Kids Worldwide in 2006 to improve the lives of children in India. We, at Safe Kids Foundation, are committed to develop a ‘safe environment’ enabling our children to lead healthy and vibrant lives. Safe Kids Foundation works with non-profit organizations, governments, safety advocates, professionals from various fields and schools, teachers, parents and employee volunteers to promote awareness and teach that accidental deaths and injuries are preventable and provide long term environmental improvements to make home, school zones and neighborhoods safe for children. The current program activities focus on promoting road safety in Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad and home safety in Pune.
‘Safe Kids Walk This Way’ is a pedestrian safety program started by Safe Kids Worldwide and FedEx in the United States in 1999. The program has worked with more than a million students and thousands of schools in Brazil, Canada, China, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Mexico, Vietnam, India and the United States. ‘Safe Kids Walk This Way’ was launched in Mumbai in 2007 with the support from FedEx India to address pedestrian-related injuries to children. It is a multifaceted program that works on the four pillars of Awareness, Education, Advocacy and Research. The safety task forces make environmental improvements to areas where children walk research studies are conducted to assess the various situations, behaviours, attitudes and law enforcement, all working together to promote child pedestrian safety.
Safe Kids Foundation with the support from Honeywell launched ‘Safe Kids at Home’, a home safety program, in Pune in 2015 to help prevent and reduce burns and scalds among children under 14 years of age through awareness sessions in schools, communities and among caregivers. This program is backed by an extensive research which reveals that burns and scalds are the second leading cause of injury amongst children below 14 years and are topmost in severity. ‘Safe Kids at Home’ deploys experiential and fun educational tools targeted at children to educate them on mandatory, informatory and precautionary behaviours in case of fire emergencies. The programe aspires to bring together citizens and civic bodies who can lead the way in making Pune a model ‘Safe Kids at Home’ city in India.
Our programs are supported whole-heartedly and actively by our sponsors- FedEx Express for Road Safety and Honeywell for Home Safety
